Nationally Ranked Broncos Shutout Cougars

Azusa Pacific men's soccer was blanked by #15 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday evening.

AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific men's soccer was blanked by the #15 nationally ranked Broncos in a 4-0 loss at the Cougar Soccer Complex on Saturday evening. The Cougars had three shots on goal compared to Cal Poly Pomona's nine and the Broncos also utilized five corner kicks compared to Azusa Pacific's two.

How it Happened: Azusa Pacific had the first opportunity in the opening minutes, when Issaka Salifu had a shot on goal, but it was saved by the Broncos goalkeeper. Just three minutes later, the Cougars found themselves trailing 1-0 when Cal Poly found the back of the net. Three more shots on goal came from the Broncos in the next seven minutes before Cal Poly Pomona put the ball between the posts to take a 2-0 advantage in the 15th minute.

Azusa Pacific collected two more shots on goal in the half, but neither were converted for a goal to minimize the deficit. The Broncos took a 3-0 lead into the half after finding the back of the net in the final seconds of the first half.

Not much action came from Azusa Pacific's offensive attack in the second half, as Cal Poly Pomona's back line stopped any type of press on the Cougars final third. The Broncos found one more goal in the second half to take a 4-0 lead, which was the final score under the lights at the Cougar Soccer Complex on Saturday evening.

Up Next: Azusa Pacific will travel to Concordia for a non-conference match on Wednesday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars will then return home on Saturday, September 23rd when they host Westmont for another non-conference match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
