LA MIRADA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific got their revenge over Hawaii Pacific this season, defeating the Sharks 3-2 to advance to the third round of the PacWest tournament.
Sydnie Sahhar threw six innings, only giving up two runs off three hits, while
Carley Gay and
Caitlin DeCanio each homered to provide the Cougars with all the offense they needed to secure the victory.Â
How it Happened: Hawaii Pacific got on the board first, scoring two runs off a single up the middlein the second inning. The Cougars responded in their half of the third as
Bella Fraser singled with two outs, then Gay stepped up to the plate and launched her first home run over the fence in her career, clearing the right center field wall to tie the game at 2-2.Â
There was not much offense on either side, as Sahhar kept Hawaii Pacific at bay through the next four innings. With the game tied at 2-2, DeCanio stepped up to the plate to lead off the seventh and belted her fourth home run of the season over the left field fence to give Azusa Pacific their first lead of the game.Â
That was all the Cougars needed as Korstrom entered on relief of Sahhar in the seventh inning and closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning. Korstrom earned her second save on the year, and
Bella Fraser picked up her second multi-hit game of the tournament.Â
