ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Cougars dropped the opening game of the NCAA West Regional 1-0 to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday in Rohnert Park, Calif. Katie Korstrom threw another complete game for Azusa Pacific, going eight innings only giving up three hits.
How it Happened: It was a tight battle in another low scoring game for Azusa Pacific to open the NCAA West Regional on the campus of Sonoma State on Thursday.
The Cougars and Toros put up zero's throughout the seven innings of play as Korstrom limited the Cal State Dominguez Hills offense to just three scattered hits throughout the game. Azusa Pacific had eight hits but were unable to string together any runs.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Toros worked a leadoff walk and then a wild pitch advanced the runner to second. Cal State Dominguez Hills then executed a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third with one out. Azusa Pacific then intentionally walked the next two batters to set up a double play opportunity, but Korstrom walked the next batter, which scored the winning run for the Toros, as the Cougars fell 1-0 in an extra inning battle.
By the Numbers: Despite the lost, Korstrom threw her 19th complete game of the year while collecting a strikeout in the game. Korstrom and Aleah Delgado each had multi-hit games and six different Azusa Pacific players each collected a hit in the game.
Up Next: Azusa Pacific will look to bounce back as they face Sonoma State in an elimination game tomorrow. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. and you can follow live HERE.
