ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - Azusa Pacific survived elimination in the second round of the NCAA West Regional, defeating Sonoma State 4-2 on Friday.
Sydnie Sahhar went the distance, throwing seven innings and striking out eight and Bella Fraser came through with a three RBI triple in the third inning.
How it Happened: Sahhar provided two three up, three down innings, including striking out the Toros side in the first.
In the third inning, the Cougars worked the bases loaded and with two outs, Jaelah Burrell came through with a single up the middle for Azusa Pacific to take a 1-0 lead. Fraser then came in as a pinch hitter and hit a line drive to right field that got under the glove of the Sonoma State right fielder and rolled all the way to the wall, allowing the Cougars to score three and take a 4-0 lead.
The Seawolves got two back in their half of the 4th to cut the lead to two, but Sahhar worked her way out of the inning once again.
Sahhar kept the Sonoma State offense at bay for the remainder of the game to help Azusa Pacific secure the 4-2 victory over Sonoma State.
