STOCKTON, Calif. - Azusa Pacific was on the road for its final regular season game of the season, and the Cougars lost by a 19-8 score to No. 12 Pacific. The Cougars finish the regular season with a 14-11 overall record, and a 2-5 mark in Golden Coast Conference play.Â
Kyra Kahahawai led the Cougars with four goals, while Maritza Ochoa also had a multi-goal game with two.Â
How It Happened: Pacific jumped on the Cougars in the first two periods of play, as the Tigers put 12 in the back of the cage while they held Azusa Pacific to just four goals, allowing the hosts to take a comfortable lead into the break.The Cougars' offensive struggles continued in the third period, scoring just one goal while the Tigers added four more to take a 16-5 lead into the final eight minutes of play. Both teams would score three goals apiece in the final period.
By the Numbers: While Azusa Pacific was able to draw 13 exclusions, the Cougars converted on just one of those opportunities, while Pacific turned 13 powerplay chances into nine goals. The Cougars were a perfect 3-for-3 in penalty shots.
Up Next: Next weekend, the Cougars will head to San Diego for the GCC Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by San Diego State. Azusa Pacific is the No. 6-seed, and its opponent will be this same Pacific team, which is the No. 3 seed. The game will be played on Friday, April 28 at 10:00 am.
