Split It

Azusa Pacific softball split their doubleheader at Chaminade on Tuesday, earning a series split against the Silverswords.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Azusa Pacific split a doubleheader at Chaminade today, earning a series split against the Silverswords. The Cougars claimed the first game by a final score of 4-3 before falling in game two, 2-0.

Game One: AZUSA PACIFIC 4, Chaminade 3

Azusa Pacific wasted no time getting on the board this game as they put up a two spot in the first inning. Two singles from Ally Chin and Carley Gay followed by a wild pitch put runners on second and third for Caitlin DeCanio who delivered with an RBI single to right field. Izzy Rivera then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Gay and make it 2-0 in favor of the Cougars.

Chaminade scored one in their half of the first, and the score remained 2-1 until the top half of the fourth when the Cougars pushed two more runs across. Sierra Sandoval walked which set up Kinsey Erickson who laid down a bunt, but was able to advance to second and Sandoval advanced to third on a throwing error. A wild pitch then scored Sandoval making it 3-1 in favor of Azusa Pacific. A throwing error by Chaminade's shortstop allowed another Cougar runner to cross home, taking a 4-1 lead.

The Silverswords scored one in their half of the fifth and made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh when they closed the scoring margin, making it a 4-3 game. The Cougars were able to escape the threat and close out the game, earning a 4-3 victory.

Game Two: Chaminade 2, Azusa Pacific 0

Chaminade scored the first run of the game in the bottom half of the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Cougars threatened in their half of the 4th when DeCanio doubled and advanced to third on a SAC bunt by Mia Alvarez, but the Silverswords escaped any scoring that Azusa Pacific could produce.

Chaminade was able to get another run across in their half of the fifth. The Cougars were able to get a runner on second in the seventh, but the Silverswords were able to shutout the Azusa Pacific offense and the Cougars fell by a final score of 2-0.
