AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific battled, but ultimately fell 4-2 to Division I Ball State on Monday afternoon. The Cougars are now 8-3 overall, while Ball State advances its record to 10-1 overall.
While the visitors opened with a doubles win at No. 3, the Cougars' top doubles duo of Eleonora Liga and Madison Kane delivered at No. 1, winning 6-2 to level the doubles count at 1-1. Liga and Kane, ranked No. 3 nationally by the ITA, are on an eight-match winning streak, including a five-match streak of holding their opponents to two or fewer games won. The Cardinals would take the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
Kane scored the Cougars' first point of the match at No. 2 singles, as it was the first court to finish by way of Kane's quick 6-2, 6-1 straight-set win. All five of Kane's wins this season have occurred in straight-set fashion.
Miruna Tudor secured the other point for the Cougars, as she won at No. 5 in straight sets. Tudor cruised to a 6-1 first set triumph, and then held off Elena Malykh in the second set for a 6-4 win. Tudor has now won nine matches in a row.
