Back On Track

Azusa Pacific picked up a 5-2 victory on Saturday over Colorado Mesa.

AZUSA, Calif. – No. 18 Azusa Pacific earned a 5-2 win over visiting Colorado Mesa on Saturday, which lifts the Cougars' overall record to 7-3 overall, and a perfect 5-0 home mark.

In hunt for the always important doubles point, Elias Emilio Walter and Cole Rassner wasted no time doing their part for the Cougars, as the duo quickly handled business at No. 3, posting a 6-0 shutout. For Rassner, it was his first time in the doubles lineup this season.

The Cougars' No. 1 pair of Leyton Bohren and Marko Nikoliuk finished the job in doubles, winning 6-4 for their fourth consecutive victory.

Just as he did in doubles, Emilio Walter (ranked No. 31 nationally) was straight to the point in singles as well, as he cruised to a 6-1 first set win, and then shut out his opponent for 6-0 second set triumph at No. 3. He is now unbeaten in his last four matches, and he has earned all six of his victories this season in straight sets.

At No. 2, Nikoliuk put Azusa Pacific up 3-0 overall, winning in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).

Brody Bohren served as the match-clincher for the Cougars, as the freshman fought for a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 for Azusa Pacific's fourth point. Brody has now won four of his last five singles matches.

Cole Rassner, who was in the lineup for the fourth time this season, added a fifth point for the Cougars, as he captured a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5. Rassner has gone unbeaten in three of his four matches thus far.

Colorado Mesa was able to pick up points with super tie break wins at No. 1 and No. 6.

Up Next: On Tuesday, March 7, the Cougars will welcome Holy Names to Azusa for a 2:00 pm match.
