Cougars Fall to #8 Fresno State

Azusa Pacific water polo fell to #8 Fresno State by a final score of 17-6 on Saturday.

FRESNO, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell to Fresno State by a score of 17-6 in Fresno today. Madeline Schultz, Skylar Ford and Kyra Kahahawai all found the back of the net twice in the game.

How it Happened: Fresno State gained control of the game as they scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter, the Bulldogs found the back of the net two more times to take an early 6-0 lead over the Cougars. 

It was Schultz who got the scoring going for Azusa Pacific as she fired one in to dent the twin and cut the deficit to five. The Bulldogs then scored four more unanswered to take a 10-1 lead. Schultz scored her second goal of the game with a minute left in the second quarter and Ford found the back of the net to put three on the board for Azusa Pacific. 

Fresno state scored three more times to end the third quarter and opened the fourth quarter with two more goals to take a 16-3 advantage.

Ford found the back of the net once again and Kyra Kahahawai scored twice in the final quarter, but there was not enough time for the Cougars to mount a comeback, falling to Fresno State by a final score of 17-6. 

Up Next: Azusa Pacific will be back at home on Friday, Mar. 24th when they face Cal State Fullerton. The game will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Citrus College in Glendora, Calif.
