AZUSA, Calif. - No. 13 Azusa Pacific had little issue with rival Biola on Saturday morning, as the Cougars secured a dominant 7-0 win to improve to 12-4 overall.
The Cougars went undefeated across the 15 sets that were played, with six straight-set sweeps in singles.
In doubles, the nation's fourth-ranked duo of Eleonora Liga and Madison Kane set the tone for the Cougars, as they won 6-1 at No. 1 over Colbyshae Emery and Brooke Fager. Liga and Kane are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches, and have earned 12 victories during that stretch.
Playing at No. 3 doubles for the Cougars, Katia Betancourt and Kylie Hull clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory against Alexandria Mann and Amelia Kitts. Betancourt and Hull are unbeaten in the two matches that they have played together this season.
To open singles, Eleonora Liga, ranked as the nation's fourth-best singles player, made quick work of Emery in the No. 1 match, with Liga winning 6-1, 6-1. Liga has now won her last five matches in straight-set fashion, and she is unbeaten in her last 15. During that stretch of 15 matches, Liga has beaten two players ranked among the top-4 nationally in straight-set sets.
Vini Bautista captured the Cougars' third point of the match at No. 3, as she beat Mann in the first set by a 6-3 tally, and she followed up with a 6-0 shutout in the second set. Bautista has won five matches this season in straight sets.
Madison Kane clinched the match for the Cougars at No. 2, beating Fager 6-1, 6-0 to put the Cougars up 4-0. Kane has won her last three matches in straight sets, and she has held her opponents to three or fewer games won in all six of those sets.
To wrap up the match, Miruna Tudor won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, April Wong won 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3, and Katherine Nguyen earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 6. Tudor is now unbeaten over her last 12 matches.
The Cougars have now shut out seven opponents this season, including four 7-0 victories.
