GLENDORA, Calif. – Despite a late equalizer by
Kyra Kahahawai that sent the game to overtime, Azusa Pacific fell 14-12 to Concordia on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars are 12-8 overall, and 1-2 in Golden Coast Conference action.
Kahahawai,
Maritza Ochoa, Maria Boix Pascual, and
Madeline Schultz each scored two goals in the game. Kahahawai added an assist and two steals.
Skylar Ford scored a goal, dished out a pair of assists, and had three steals in the game. In goal, Daniela Herrero Mirrales had seven saves.
How It Happened: The Cougars found themselves in an early hole, as the Golden Eagles were up 5-3 after the first quarter of play, but the second quarter would see Azusa Pacific outscore Concordia by a 4-2 margin to send the two teams to halftime locked at 7-7. The Golden Eagles were held scoreless for nearly seven minutes of play in the second quarter, during which the Cougars struck for three goals.

Montana White goal less than a minute into the third quarter gave the Cougars their first lead of the match, but a pair of unanswered Concordia goals gave the Golden Eagles a 9-8 advantage. Going into the fourth quarter, Azusa Pacific was down 10-9.
The first three minutes of the fourth saw the Golden Eagles add another goal to go up 11-9, while Azusa Pacific was held scoreless. With just under five minutes to play, Schultz found the back of the cage to make it 11-10, and that score would remain until there was under a minute left. With 49 seconds to go in regulation, Kahahawai delivered in the clutch for the Cougars, as she buried her first goal of the game into the back of the net to draw the score even at 1-1. While both teams had a possession over the final 45 seconds of regular time, neither team could score the game winner.
In the first of two three minute overtime periods, Concordia scored two goals to take the lead for good at 13-11. The Golden Eagles added one more goal in the second overtime period, while Kahahawai scored her second goal of the game with 22 seconds to play.
By the Numbers: The Cougars were able to take 10 more shots than the Golden Eagles, as they had 44 chances, while Concordia finished with 34. With their 12 goals, the Cougars have now had 10 or more goals in 11 consecutive matches.
