MONTEREY PARK, Calif - After a strong day in the pool on day three, Azusa Pacific remains in second place among the PCSC standings with 763 points. Montana White highlighted the Cougars performance tonight after placing first in the 200 free. Aleena Herrera also took home second in the 400 IM and Amanda Anderson and Riley Smith collected third place finishes on the podium in their respective events.
The finals kicked off with Marcelina Halawczak scoring 24 points for the Cougars in the 100 fly with a finishing time of 57.43. Hannah Swailes and Connor Herrin would also pick up 14Â points combined, adding to Azusa Pacific's overall score.Â
In the 400 IM, Herrera touched the wall at 4:27.28 which was a personal best for her, securing 28 points for the Cougars, while Anderson followed closely behind, finishing at 4:27.44 and adding on 27 more points.Â
In the 200 free, White posted the best overall time in the event at 1:49.97, earning 32 total points for Azusa Pacific and Smith turned in a personal best time of 1:51.36 in the event. Madeline Schultz was another strong contributor in this event, adding on 27 more points for the Cougars. Smith's and Schultz's also earned national qualifying times at the "B" standard in this event tonight.Â
In the 100 breaststroke, Delaney Gearing, Paige Colligan and Madison Schneider combined for 19 points for Azusa Pacific. In the 100 back, Marci Yanagawa earned a career best time of 57.97 (26 points) and Elaine Wong also added six more points for the Cougars in this event.Â
To wrap up finals, the 400 medley relay team of Anderson, Halawczak, Smith and Yanagawa turned in a time of 3:52.39 to earn Azusa Pacific 56 more points.Â
