MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - Azusa Pacific swimming & diving wrapped up three days of competition at the Winter Invitational on Sunday. 11 personal best times highlighted the day and Madeline Schultz earned a National Qualifying time at the NCAA "B" standard. The Cougars concluded the meet with a sixth place finish, earning 711 points across a highly competitive field among DI, DII and DII teams.Â
"We had strong performances this weekend for mid-season racing." said head coach Tim Kyle. "I think we are in a good place to be competitive this year in the PCSC"
Alexandra Szolnoki got things started in the 1650 Free, earning a personal best time of 18:00.07, collecting 15 points for the Cougars. Then in the 100 IM, Gearing earned five points with a personal best time of 1:01.75. In the 200 back, Marci Yanagawa earned seven points, swimming a season best 2:07.93 and in the prelims, Kya Guikema and Sydney Romero set season best times of 2:09.80 and 2:14.24.
White then earned her third first place finish of the meet in the 100 Free, collecting a season best time of 50.57, which earned 32 points for Azusa Pacific. Schultz earned an NCAA "B" Standard time in this event, touching the wall at 52.09. White and Schultz have now both earned National Qualifying times in this event this season. Hannah Swailes, Sivesind and Provencal also set personal best times in the prelims.Â
Anderson then finished with a time of 2:21.60 in the 200 breast, earning 4th place and 26 points. She secured a personal best time of 2:20.95 in the prelims. Gearing and Madison Schneider combined for 18 more points for Azusa Pacific in this event.Â
Then, Marcelina Halawczak finished third with a personal best time of 2:07.41 in the 200 fly, eraning 27 points. Szolnoki earned 16 more points with a personal best time of 2:08.86 and Alfaro collected six points and earned a season best time of 2:11.19 in the prelims. Janelle Ng also earned a personal best in this event with a time of 2:25.41 in the prelims.
To close out the meet, the 400 free relay team of Sivesind, Schultz, Swailes and White finished third with a time of 3:28.03. Anderson earned a 100 free personal best time of 54.95 as a relay leadoff, and her along with Guikema, Gearing and Provencal earned a time of 3:41.10.Â
