HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Seven different players scored in Azusa Pacific's 9-1 victory over Hawai'i Pacific in Honolulu on Wednesday evening. Rilee Bradbury and Bethany Tee each recorded a brace, while Kylie Carwitz, Angela Cipriano, Aubrey Dunaway, Avery Guiel and Katie Prado also found the back of the net in the win.Â
The Cougars nine goals is the most goals the program has scored in a single game in the NCAA DII era as the last time the program recorded nine or more goals dates back to the 2008 season when they defeated William Jessup 10-1. The margin of victory is also the largest under head coach Brooke Lincoln's leadership and the highest margin of victory in the program since 2009.
How it Happened: The Cougars got out to an aggressive start in the first half, collecting four goals from four different players. Tee got the scoring going, finding the top right corner of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Hawai'i Pacific found the equalizer in the 23rd minute to tie the game at 1-1.Â
In the 28th minute, it was Dunaway who gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead with help from Guiel. Just three minutes later, it was Guiel's turn, putting the ball in the low left corner to give Azusa Pacific a 3-1 lead.Â
To wrap up the scoring in the first 45 minutes, it was Bradbury who put the ball between the posts, giving the Cougars a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the half.Â
Cipriano added another goal for Azusa Pacific in the 47th minute to take a 5-1 advantage. Throughout the half, Hawai'i Pacific found presence on their attacking half including a corner kick and a shot on goal that was saved by Maddie Williams, but Azusa Pacific's back line prevented the Sharks from converting on any dangerous opportunities they had.
A breakaway down field in the 65th minute set up Tee once again who's shot into the high right corner of the net gave the Cougars a dominant 6-1 edge. The scoring did not stop there as Guiel set up Bradbury down field in the 71st minute who's shot just outside the box gave the Cougars a 7-1 lead.Â
Prado kept the momentum rolling for the Cougars in the final 20 minutes when her shot from about 30 yards out nailed the top right corner of the goal to extend Azusa Pacific's lead to 8-1. Carwitz got in on the action in the 86th minute when on the far side of the field from about 30 yards out once again, her shot got past the Shark's goalkeeper to collect her first goal of the season, giving the Cougars a massive 9-1 lead.
9-1 was the final as Azusa Pacific continued their unbeaten streak, pushing it to seven in a dominant win that saw the Cougars in command for the entirety of the game.Â
By the Numbers: The Cougars collected 15 shots with 10 on frame, recording a .667 shooting percentage. Azusa Pacific limited the Sharks to just three shots with two on goal. The nine goals is a new record for the program in the NCAA era and the largest margin of victory the program has recorded in 14 years. Williams surrendered just one goal in net, while Makenzie Jerome also collected 13 minutes between the posts. Guiel and Tee each had two assists on the evening and Tee collected her team-leading seventh and eighth goals, which now ranks second in the PacWest.Â
