Draw It Up

Azusa Pacific women’s soccer earned a 2-2 tie against #13 nationally ranked Hawai’i Hilo on Saturday evening.

HILO, Hawai'i - Azusa Pacific secured a 2-2 draw against #13 nationally ranked Hawai'i Hilo on Saturday evening. Hailey Hilton and Aubrey Dunaway both found the back of the net in the contest and Bethany Tee collected an assist. 

How it Happened: The Cougars found themselves trailing early when the Vulcans scored in the eighth minute to take a 1-0 lead. 

The Cougars found two shots on goal before Tee set up Hilton to score the equalizer, tying the game at one goal a piece. Avery Guiel was able to muster two more shots on goal before the end of the half, but nothing came of the offensive press. Hawai'i Hilo was also able to get a shot off in the final minute, but Maddie Williams made the timely save to keep the game tied heading into halftime. 

The Vulcan's found the go ahead goal in the 64th minute, taking a 2-1 advantage. Azusa Pacific found a corner kick opportunity in the 70th minute, leading to a presence on their attacking half. Dunaway converted the equalizer just four minutes later to tie the game at 2-2. 

The Vulcans collected a shot on goal in the 86th minute followed by another shot on frame from Guiel in the 87th, but keepers on both sides came up with the crucial saves.

After 90 minutes of play, the game ended in a 2-2 draw, concluding Azusa Pacific's time in Hawai'i, going 2-0-1. 

By the Numbers: The Cougars collected 12 shots with eight on frame compared to the Vulcans 10 with six on frame. Azusa Pacific also collected more corner kicks with eight compared to Hawai'i Hilo's six and Williams came up with four saves in the match. Guiel had four shots on goal while four other Cougars came up with a shot on frame. Lincoln utilized six players off the bench and five Cougars played the full 90 minutes. The tie moves Azusa Pacific to 8-4-5 on the season and 5-1-3 in PacWest play. 

Up Next: Azusa Pacific will return to the Cougar Soccer Complex for their final home game of the year, which is also senior night on Saturday, November 11th. The Cougars kickoff against Biola at 7:00 p.m. and if you cannot attend the game, you can watch HERE.
