MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - Day two of the Winter Invitational consisted of career bests and a school record broken, along with many great performances in the lanes. Montana White collected a career best in the 200 free, also breaking the school record she previously set in this event. Paige Colligan also earned a career best on the day.Â
"We are competing at a high level for mid season." said head coach Tim Kyle. "Looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish tomorrow! Congrats to Montana for breaking her own school record in the 200 free."
To kick things off in the lanes, Marci Yanagawa, Delanie Gearing, Montana White and Madeline Schultz earned an eighth place finish in the 200 medley relay, earning 44 points for the Cougars with a time of 1:35.76. Then in the 400 IM, Amanda Anderson took home fifth, touching the wall at 4:32.38, collecting 25 more points. Marcelina Halawczak also earned 15 points for Azusa Pacific with a time of 57.47 in the 100 fly.Â
White then dominated the 200 free, earning a career best with a time of 1:48.65 which also broke the school record that she had previously set. The time was also more than enough for another first place finish for the second consecutive day. Kya Guikema finished with a time of 1:56.76 in this event and her and White combined for 43 more points for the Cougars.Â
In the 100 breast, Gearing finished with a time of 1:08.49 and Colligan earned a time of 1:10.07, combining for 15 points. Colligan's time of 1:08.79 in the prelims earned her a career best in the event. Yanagawa then earned 12 more points with a 59.06 finish in the 100 back.Â
To close out the second day of competition, the 800 free relay team of Anderson, Guikema, Schultz and White finished with a time of 7:40.02 earning 52 more points.Â
