MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - Azusa Pacific swimming & diving started competition at the Winter Invitational on Friday, taking place at East Los Angeles college. Kya Guikema earned a National Qualifying time at the NCAA "B" standard in the 500 Free and Montana White nearly beat her personal best in the 500 Free, having already earned an NCAA "B" standard time in this event earlier in the year.Â
To start the day, the 200 Free relay team of Madeline Schultz, Ellie Sivesind, Hannah Swailes and White finished fifth, earning 50 points for the Cougars with a time of 1:35.76. Then in the 500 Free, White finished first with a time of 4:51.80, earning 32 points and Sivesind finished 7th with a time of 5:07.76, collecting 23 points. It was in the 500 Free prelims when Guikema earned an NCAA "B" cut and earned a personal best in the event, with a finishing time of 5:04.71.Â
Then in the 200 IM, Amanda Anderson earned fourth place with a finishing time of 2:06.91, earning 26 points and Marci Yanagawa collected four points with a time of 2:12.70.Â
Madeline Schultz collected nine more points for Azusa Pacific in the 50 Free, with a time of 24.07, and to round out the day, the 400 medley relay team of Delanie Gearing, Marcelina Halawczak, Sivesind and Yanagawa earned 44 more points with an eighth place finish and time of 3:56.58.Â
