Cougars Conclude Road Trip, White Breaks Records

Azusa Pacific swimming & diving swept their dual meet in Alaska while Montana White broke two more pool records, earning another National Qualifying time at the NCAA "B" standard.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Azusa Pacific swimming & diving wrapped up their deal meet with Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday afternoon defeating the Nanooks for the second day in a row by a score of 136-63. Montana White broke two more pool records in the 500 and 1000 Free, also earning another National Qualifying time at the NCAA "B" Standard in the 1000 Free. 

"It's good to see the team compete well." said head coach Tim Kyle. "I couldn't be more proud of Montana with setting four new pool records and continuing to race better than she ever has at this point in the season."

To open the day, Marci Yanagawa, Amanda Anderson, Madeline Schultz and White finished first in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:50.35, earning nine points for the Cougars. The relay team of Sydney Romero, Aleena Herrera, Marcelina Halawczak and Hannah Swailes picked up two more points for Azusa Pacific in the event with a third place finish.

Then in the 1000 Free, White earned another first place finish with a time of 10:16.39 (NCAA "B" Standard time) and Delanie Gearing followed in second place, touching the wall at 11:16.71. Riley Lawler also picked up a fourth place finish (11:33.91) as they combined for 14 points on the event. Yanagawa and Kya Guikema finished first and second with times of 2:00.47 and 2:00.75, collecting 13 more points in the 200 Free. Romero also earned a point for the Cougars with a fifth place finish.

Azusa Pacific finished first, second and third in the 50 Free by way of Schultz (25.02), Ellie Sivesind (25.33) and Swailes (25.66). The Cougars also swept the top three spots in the 100 Free when Schultz earned her second first place finish on the day with a time of 54.29 and Sivesind and Swailes finished right behind collecting 32 points across both events. 

Victoria Alfaro earned a first place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:12.66, while Alexandra Szolnoki and Halawczak followed in second and third with finishing times of 2:14.27 and 2:18.02. Herrera (4:38.88), Anderson (4:42.95) and Gearing (4:53.67) then combined for nine points earning second, third and fourth place finishes in the 400 IM. 

Yanagawa also earned her second first place finish on the day in the 200 back with a time of 2:08.63, earning nine points. Guikema and Elaine Wong also picked up points five for the Cougars in this event finishing third and fourth. Azusa Pacific then saw top three finishes in the 500 Free by way of White, Herrera and Davina Sharma. White earned a time of 4:59.05 earning nine points, while Herrera (5:21.43) and Sharma (5:33.63) combined for seven more points. 

The Cougars closed out the meet in the 200 breast when Anderson (2:28.36), Madison Schneider (2:39.21) and Paige Colligan earned second, third and fourth place finishes to give Azusa Pacific nine more points.

The Cougars defeated Alaska Fairbanks for the second day in a row by a final score of 136-63, closing out the meet. The Cougars own the all-time record over the Nanooks 10-6, having won the last seven dual meets. 

Up Next: Azusa Pacific will return to the pool on Saturday, November 4th when they host Biola in a dual meet for Senior Day and a Cornerstone Cup Rivalry match. The meet is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and if you cannot attend, you can watch HERE.
