FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Azusa Pacific swimming & diving opened its dual meet at Alaska Fairbanks with a 134-69 victory on day one. Montana White earned two National Qualifying times at the NCAA "B" Standard and broke two pool records. The Cougars also earned eight first place finishes in the lanes and also had many season-bests.
To start the day, Marci Yanagawa, Amanda Anderson, Marcelina Halawczak and Montana White finished first with a time of 3:58.59 in the 400 Medley Relay earning 11 points and the relay team of Sydney Romero, Delanie Gearing, Victoria Alfaro and Hannah Swailes followed in third place with a time of 4:09.92.Â
Aleena Herrera and Alexandra Szolnoki then earned first and second in the 1650 Free, combining for 13 points. Herrera touched the wall at 18:13.37 and Szolnoki followed just a second behind at 18:14.12.Â
In the 200 Free, White earned herself an NCAA "B" Standard time and season-best with a first place time of 1:51.07, while Kya Guikema collected second place with a finishing time of 1:58.89. Then in the 50 Free, Madeline Schultz (24.72), Ellie Sivesind (25.32) and Swailes (25.39) placed first, second and third, all collecting season-bests while earning 16 points for Azusa Pacific.Â
The Cougars swept the podium once again in the 100 Free when White earned first with a time of 50.89 (NCAA "B" Standard time), followed by Schultz finishing with a time of 54.35 and Swailes touching the wall at 55.61. Then in the 100 Fly, Halawczak (59.29) and Alfaro (1:01.43) took first and second, also earning season-bests as both events earned 31Â points for the Cougars.
Marci Yanagawa earned herself a first place finish with a time of 58.35 in the 100 Back, picking up nine points and Guikema finished with a time of 5:14.46 to earn first in the 500 Free, followed by Herrera who earned second with a time of 5:16.61, combining for 13 points.
Anderson picked up a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:13.20) and finished third in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:08.89 in the meet. Gearing also earned a second place finish in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:08.88
The combined effort was enough for the Cougars to win by almost double the points of their opponent on day one of their dual meet in Alaska.Â
