MALIBU, Calif. - Azusa Pacific put together another solid showing at the Rodionoff Invitational at Pepperdine on Saturday. Montana White earned a National Qualifying time at the NCAA "B" Standard in the 500 Free and collected two first place overall finishes. The Cougars also saw six first place finishes in the Division II category on the boards and in the lanes.Â
"Two solid days." said head coach Tim Kyle. "I like where we are at this early in the season."Â
On Friday, diving got underway for the first time this season. In the three-meter dive, Abigail Keane led the way with a total score of 179.05 after six dives, earning eighth overall and first place in DII. Allison Ferrer followed with a combined score of 171.60 and Madison Schneider finished with a score of 107.20 to earn ninth and 10th place overall.Â
In the one-meter dive, Ferrer led the way with a combined score of 210.80 which earned her first place in DII and 12th overall.
To open the day Saturday, Marci Yanagawa, Delanie Gearing, Madeline Schultz and White finished second overall and first in DII in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:47.39. Amanda Anderson followed with a second place finish (first in DII) in the 400 IM with a time of 4:40.75 and Yanagawa finished third overall at 4:42.58, which was also a personal-best for her.
White then earned a first place overall finish in the 200 Free, touching the wall at 1:53.18 and Guikema secured second place overall with a finishing time of 1:56.90. White followed with her second overall victory of the day in the 500 Free with a time of 4:56.01, which was enough to earn her a "B" standard National Qualifying time.
Schultz gathered another first place victory in the lanes in the DII category with a finishing time of 24.76 in the 50 Free.
The Cougars wrapped up the day in the pool with their fifth first place finish in the DII category in the 400 Free Relay, when Hannah Swailes, Guikema, Schultz and White combined for a time of 3:35.99, which ranked second overall.
Other strong performances in the pool came from Marcelina Halawczak who secured second in DII in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.45, and the relay team of Sydney Romero, Paige Colligan, Halawczak and Swailes who finished third in DII in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.96.
