Azusa, Calif - Azusa Pacific men's soccer ended the match with a 1-1 tie against Westmont on Friday evening. Luis Solis had the only goal of the game and his first in a Cougar Uniform.Â
How it Happened - The Cougars got off to a quick jump on the opening whistle, driving down their half of the field and Jessie Echeverria having a shot on goal that was saved in the 5th minute of play. Another opportunity arose for Azusa Pacific in the 10th minute by way of Solis. He found the ball at his feet and worked his way through a few Westmont defenders to take his shot and find the back of the net to take a 1-0 advantage. Westmont came dangerously close to scoring in the 23rd minute, but an incredible save by Leo Moreno kept the Cougars ahead. Over the course of the first 45 minutes, Azusa Pacific tabbed three shots on goal, and one off the crossbar while holding possession 68% of the time on their attacking half.Â
The last 45 minutes was a turn of events when the Warriors put the ball between the posts in the 70th minute of play to knot the game at 1-1. In the second half, the Cougars created plenty of opportunities with four corner kicks and three shots on goal, yet they could not find the back of the net despite a valiant effort.Â
By the Numbers - This is Azusa Pacific's sixth tie against Westmont over 51 total meetings. The Cougars had six shots on goal compared to the Warriors four, and six corner kicks compared to two on the other half of the pitch. Solis' goal tonight is the sixth of the season for Azusa Pacific, which have all been scored by different players.Â
