Box Score POMONA, CALIF - The Cougars suffered their first loss of the 2022 season at Cal Poly Pomona Wednesday evening by a score of 0-3. This is just Azusa Pacific's fifth loss dating back to the 2018 season.Â
How it Happened - The Bronco's held possession on their attacking half for a majority of the first 45 minutes, collecting 13 shots compared to the Cougar's three. Cal Poly Pomona eventually found their opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net in the 23rd minute taking an early 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later, a penalty kick for Cal Poly Pomona forced a save from Leo Moreno, but the Broncos Max Laguna was able to score off the rebound which doubled their lead to 2-0. Later in the half, Luis Solis and Jessie Echeverria both attempted to put the ball between the posts and cut the lead down, but the Bronco's goalkeeper came up with two saves to keep Cal Poly Pomona ahead heading into half time.
In the last 45 minutes, Azusa Pacific outshot Cal Poly Pomona 8-6 and had four corner kicks, but unfortunately could not capitalize on any opportunities near the net. The Broncos scored again in the 68th minute to take a 3-0 lead, which held for the rest of the match.Â
