For the second consecutive year, Sam Sippel was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team honoree, as he excelled on the tennis court and in the classroom at Azusa Pacific throughout the 2022-23 academic year.
Sippel graduated with his business management degree in May, and he finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.96. In addition to his Academic All-American selection, Sippel's GPA earned him the Individual Academic Achievement Award for Cougar Athletics, as he posted the highest GPA among male graduating student-athletes.
On the court, Sippel went 18-4 in singles at No. 2 for the Cougars, and he won 14 of those matches in straight-set fashion. Sippel went unbeaten over his final 10 matches of the season. For his performance, he was selected to the All-PacWest Singles Second Team, and closed out the year ranked No. 33 in the ITA's national singles rankings.
"Sam had another great year for us," said head coach Mark Bohren, "Sam's ability to thrive both academically and athletically speaks volumes about his character and discipline. He is committed to success in all areas of his life, and he has represented our program well."
Sippel is the sixth Cougar in program history to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, and the first to earn the award twice in a career. Sippel is also just the fourth Azusa Pacific student-athlete across all sports to be an Academic All-American twice in his career.
