All five of Azusa Pacific's winter sports placed at their respective Championships. Women's swimming recorded the program's best-ever finish at Nationals by finishing No. 22, which added 52 points to Azusa Pacific's total. Men's track & field delivered 51 points with a 22nd-place finish at Indoor Nationals, and the men's and women's basketball teams each tallied 50 points with second round appearances in the West Regionals.Â
The Cougars' 285.50 winter total added on to the 78 points which were scored by men's soccer and men's cross country in the fall. Men's soccer scored 50 points with their appearance in the West regional, and men's cross country scored 28 points with a 35th-place finish at Nationals.
Azusa Pacific is currently the highest-ranked school on the West Coast.
"We have enjoyed terrific success throughout all of our programs up to this point," said Director of Athletics Gary Pine, "We have outstanding student-athletes and coaches that are dedicated and committed to excellence in all areas of life, and they seek to further the mission of Azusa Pacific. Given all we have endured the past few years, this puts wind in our sails and is another accomplishment to celebrate."
Currently, all eight of Azusa Pacific's spring sport programs are still in contention for their respective NCAA Championships. Stay tuned to APUCougars.com to follow the Cougars throughout the remainder of the spring.
The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
