SURPRISE, Ariz. - No. 2-seed Azusa Pacific is advancing to the semifinals of the PacWest Tournament, following the Cougars' 4-0 defeat of No. 7-seed Cal State Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon. Azusa Pacific improved to 3-0 against the Golden Eagles this season, as the Cougars won two regular season meetings in addition to today's quarterfinal match. 

Carolyn Brooner and Katherine Nguyen claimed the first win of the day for the Cougars, winning in dominant 6-1 fashion at No. 3 doubles. Eleonora Liga and Madison Kane, the All-PacWest Doubles First Team duo for the Cougars, secured the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead with a 6-2 win at No. 1. 

Nguyen recorded the first singles point of the day for the Cougars, as she rolled to a victory at No. 6. Nguyen opened with a 6-1 first set triumph, and then took six straight games in set two for the 6-0 win. Madison Kane, an All-PacWest First Team selection this season, made it 3-0 for the Cougars with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2.

Eleonora Liga, the PacWest Newcomer of the Year and an All-PacWest First Team performer, delivered the match-clinching win at No. 1. Liga took the first set 6-1, and then sealed the deal for the Cougars by a 6-3 tally in the second set.

With today's quarterfinal victory, Azusa Pacific has now won its last five quarterfinal matches at the PacWest Tournament dating back to 2017.

Up Next: The Cougars will meet No. 6-seed Academy of Art tomorrow in the semifinals. The match will start at 1:00 pm. The Urban Knights and Cougars met once during the regular season, and Azusa Pacific walked away with a 6-1 victory. Academy of Art advanced to the semifinals with a 4-2 win over No. 3-seed Biola.
