Water Polo Falls to Ranked Opponent

Azusa Pacific falls to another ranked opponent, this time to No. 11 UC Davis, 14-2.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- Azusa Pacific fell to No. 11 ranked UC Davis, 14-2 on Saturday morning. The Cougars are now 6-12 overall with a 0-3 Conference record. 

The only goals of the game came from Kyra Kahahawai in the first period and Milena Guzmán Ortiz in the fourth period.  

How it Happened: The Aggies picked up the first three goals of the game but the Cougars responded with a goal of their own scoring on a penalty shot with less than three minutes left of the period. 

The Cougars remained scoreless through the second and third periods as the Aggies improved to a 11-1 lead. 

Azusa Pacific's leading scorer Guzmán-Ortiz, secured the team's last goal of the game at the 7:15 mark in an attempt to chop away at the Aggies' lead. But the nationally ranked UC Davis continued to score three more goals to end the game. 

By the Numbers: The Cougars went 0-4 in the sprints and were 0-11 on power plays while the Aggies were able to score 5-of-7 times on power plays. Although the Cougars were held to 2 goals they were still able to fire off 24 shots in the matchup.

Olivia Lott was able to collect eight more saves for the Cougars to total 73 saves so far this season. 

Up Next: The Cougars will face off against #21 Brown University on Wednesday, March 30th after beating them earlier in the season. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. and will take place at Charter Oak High School in Covina, California.
