AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific won its third-consecutive match this week, as the Cougars defended their home court once again for a 6-1 win over Colorado Mesa. With the victory, Azusa Pacific is now 10-4 overall.

After Elias Emilio Walter and Ryan Nuno opened the afternoon with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, the Mustangs answered back on court No. 3 with a win, which put the doubles point up for grabs in the No. 1 matchup. For the Cougars, it was the towering duo of Ethan Smith and Sam Sippel that were tasked with claiming the point. While Smith and Sippel had played in nine matches together this season, all of those occasions were at No. 3. Ultimately, Smith and Sippel would deliver for the Cougars, winning 7-5 to put Azusa Pacific up 1-0.

In the singles portion of the afternoon, it was the Cougars' one-two punch that set the tone. At No. 2, Sippel was in full control from the first serve, as he rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win to improve his singles record to 9-2 this season. Over at No. 1, Nuno also dominated from the outset, claiming a 6-1, 6-1 victory to put the Cougars up 3-0.

Ivan Noel Hornung was the match-clincher for Azusa Pacific, by way of a straight set (6-3, 6-3) win in the No. 3 matchup.

Cole Rassner added to the Cougars' margin of victory with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 6, and Caden Samkutty bounced back from a first set loss to win in a super tiebreak (5-7, 7-6, 10-5) at No. 5 for the Cougars' sixth and final point of the afternoon.
