Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Corey Langerveld

Streak Stopped at Four

Azusa Pacific's four-match win streak was snapped in a 6-1 loss to Hawai'i Pacific.

AZUSA, Calif. - Azusa Pacific fell by a 6-1 final on Tuesday afternoon to visiting Hawai'i Pacific. The Cougars are now 8-5 on the season.

The Sharks opened play by winning two of three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead and put the Cougars in an early hole.

In singles, Hawai'i Pacific opened with straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 6 to push its lead up to 3-0 overall. On court No. 2, Sam Sippel was able to capture the first point of the match for the Cougars, as he won in straight sets (7-6, 6-4) for the seventh time this season.

While Hawai'i Pacific would ultimately take five out of six in singles, the final three courts were all three-set battles, with the momentum swinging from one team to another. Ultimately, the Sharks were able to close things out by taking the third and final set in each of the three matchups.

Up Next: The Cougars will look to bounce back tomorrow, when they host Washington University (St. Louis) at 2:30 pm in Azusa. Washington, a Division III school, enters tomorrow's match with a 6-2 record.
