Schnaitter Honored as PacWest Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Jakob Schnaitter, of men’s tennis, took home the PacWest Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award

Jakob Schnaitter was recognized last week for his efforts in the classroom and on the court. He received the PacWest Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year Award and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. This week he was named an ITA Scholar Athlete, and on Wednesday was named the PacWest Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Schnaitter graduated from Azusa Pacific in the spring with a degree in Business Management. He finished the 2020-21 academic year with a 3.81 GPA. On the court, Schnaitter helped lead the Cougars to a 17-5 record. For the second time in his career, he was recognized as the PacWest Player of the Year. He was named to First All-PacWest across singles and doubles with partner Leyton Bohren. His 36-4 record across singles and doubles play led to his All-American selection in both. That record allowed Schnaitter to etch himself in the Cougar Tennis record books. He is second in winning percentage at No. 1 singles (.957), third in singles and doubles winning percentage (.833), and fourth in singles winning percentage (.928).

Nationally, Schnaitter finished ranked in singles at No. 6 and held the top singles spot in the west region at No. 1. Alongside Bohren, the duo ended the year ranked No. 3 nationally in doubles play and were No. 1 in the region. The pairing posted a 17-3 record across the season.

Across his four years at Azusa Pacific, Schnaitter was a two-time PacWest Player of the Year and a two-time All-PacWest First Team selection in both singles and doubles. In addition to his academic recognition during the 2020-21 school year, he also received PacWest All-Academic honors all four years. He now heads to Division I Wake Forest to pursue a graduate degree while wrapping up his collegiate tennis career.
