Azusa Pacific swimming & diving posted a 3.65 cumulative team GPA, which earned the Cougars distinction as a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America team. Of the Cougars' 27 student-athletes, 25 had a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, including 15 that ended the 2020-21 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. Azusa Pacific had the second highest team GPA of any West region women's program.Â
"Whether it was academically or athletically, our team performed at a high level on a daily basis," said head coach Tim Kyle, "Despite many obstacles and difficulties throughout the year, our student-athletes persevered and overcame the challenges. I am very proud of my team and they are more than deserving of this significant honor."
The 2021 Cougars is the third Azusa Pacific team in the last four years to garner the recognition of a Scholar All-America team.
In the pool, the Cougars placed fifth at the 2021 PCSC Championships in April. Azusa Pacific scored points in 21 events, including first-place finishes by Amy Crayne in both the one-meter and three-meter dive (she set the PCSC record for points scored on a 6-dive list), and Emily Rigsby was the conference champion in the 200 Fly. In total, the Cougars had nine podium-worthy performances, as Melia Stout and McKenna Webster each finished top three in the one-meter and three-meter, while Tessie Scavone (400 IM) and Riley Smith (200 Free) had third-place finishes.
