Jenny Sandoval broke her own school record in the 5K on Saturday, as she competed in the "The Track Meet" hosted by Sound Running in Irvine. Sandoval, who entered this weekend's meet at No. 4 in the nation for the event, ran an automatic time of 15:58.61 to move into third in Division II. Earlier this season at the APU Invitational & Distance Carnival, Sandoval became the program's all-time leader in the 5K with a time of 16:01.41.

Saturday's race in Irvine was Sandoval's final tune-up for Nationals, where she will race in both the 10K and 5K. Sandoval is the national-leader in the 10K by more than 20 seconds (32:58.39). The Cougars are currently ranked No. 1 in the country, and head coach Jack Hoyt will look to Sandoval to be a key point scorer for the squad in the distance events.
