Tables Turned

Azusa Pacific was tripped up by Concordia on Tuesday night, dropping the match by a 3-1 final.

IRVINE, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific was on the road for its second consecutive PacWest Southern California pod matchup, as the Cougars fell 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 18-25, 18-25) to Concordia. Annaka Jorgenson had a team-high 12 kills, Mina Andjelkovic had 23 assists, Kyra Palmbush and Kaitlin Craig had three blocks apiece, and Bailey Henington tallied 23 digs.

How it Happened: The night started off strong for the Cougars, opening the match with a first set victory. Late in the set, Azusa Pacific held a slim 18-17 advantage when the Cougars took the next four straight points to surge ahead 22-17. The Eagles would pull as close as three at 23-20, but kills from Abby Hills and Jorgenson put the opening set away to give the Cougars a 1-0 overall match lead.

In the second set, the Cougars were up 15-14 when the momentum swung drastically in favor of the Eagles. Concordia scored six unanswered points to grab a large 20-15 lead, providing the hosts with all the necessary cushion to eventually even the match at 1-1.

Over the third and fourth sets, the Eagles maintained control and kept the Cougars at a comfortable distance, preventing Azusa Pacific from forcing a fifth and deciding set.

By the Numbers: Concordia had a .286 hitting percentage (60-for-161), compared to the Cougars' offensive output of .191 (46-for-152). In the service game, the Eagles had 10 aces and 14 errors, while Azusa Pacific had one ace and five errors. Defensively, Concordia tallied seven total blocks and the Cougars finished with six.
