Tigers Roar Past Cougars

No. 21 Azusa Pacific lost a road contest by a 19-5 final to No. 13 Pacific on Friday afternoon.

STOCKTON, Calif. -- No. 21 Azusa Pacific suffered a 19-5 road defeat at No. 13 Pacific on Friday afternoon. Five different Cougars scored, and Brianna Erickson recorded three steals in the contest. 

 

How it Happened: Just 15 seconds in the game, the Tigers found the back of the cage for the first score of the contest. Pacific would score twice more in the opening eight minutes, while the Cougars were held scoreless. The Tigers added two more goals in the start of the second quarter to make it 5-0, with Azusa Pacific finally getting on the board when Lauren Hoyle scored a goal with 4:25 remaining before halftime. The Tigers maintained control by scoring four more goals over the rest of the second quarter, while limiting Azusa Pacific to just one more before halftime when Britini Tisdale scored with 1:52 on the first half clock.

 

In the third quarter, Pacific outscored the Cougars by a 4-1 margin, with Shyanne Rainey scoring the lone goal for Azusa Pacific.

 

The Tigers closed out the game by matching their highest goal-scoring quarter of the afternoon, converting on six of their shots in the fourth quarter. Azusa Pacific had two goals in the final minute of the game, with one by Kaelene De Bie at 35 seconds, and Milena Guzmán Ortiz finding the back of the cage with one second on the clock.

 

By the Numbers: Pacific was a perfect 6-for-6 on its power play opportunities, compared to Azusa Pacific's 4-for-12 (.333) execution with the advantage. The Tigers outshot the Cougars 38-18.


Up Next: The Cougars (3-4, 2-4 GCC) have a two-week break in competition, as they will close out the regular season at home (Glendora High School) on Saturday, April 17 against Concordia.
