Heating Up

The Cougars defeated the Hawks of San Diego Christian on Friday afternoon, the match ended 7-0.

AZUSA, Calif. - No. 9 Azusa Pacific defeated San Diego Christian by a score of 7-0. The Cougars have now won their last three matches in sweep fashion. With this victory the Cougars improve to 11-2 on the season with just one regular season match left to play. 

Azusa Pacific would take all three doubles matchups to secure the doubles point. Courtney Page and Madison Kane set the tone for the Cougars as they impressively took their match at No. 3, 6-1. Carolyn Brooner and Jacky Wagner would follow with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 to put the Cougars up by a score of 1-0. The doubles sweep was clinched at No. 1 by Petra Ivankovic and Anna Savchenko. Their match ended by the score of 6-2. 

All the Cougar singles matches finished in straight sets on Friday. The first matchup to finish was Wagner at the No. 3 spot. Her contest ended quickly in 6-0, 6-1 fashion. Brooner was to follow, as her No. 4 matchup ended 6-0, 6-2. This marks Brooner's third straight singles victory. Savchenko clinched the match for the Cougars at No. 2 as her match closed out at 6-1, 6-2. Ivankovic was the fourth Cougar to finish as she swept the first set 6-0, and closed it out in the second set 6-3. As Azusa Pacific had already secured the victory, Kane and Katia Betancourt each played pro sets in their matchups. Betancourt swept her set by a score of 8-0 while Kane was right behind with an 8-2 win. These victories closed out the sweep for Azusa Pacific, this marks the third 7-0 sweep on the season for the Cougars. 

The Cougars will wrap up their regular season tomorrow, April 17 against Hawai'i Pacific. The matchup will take place at home at 10:00 AM. The Cougars will honor their seniors as they play one final match at Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. Live stats will be available for following here.
