4-0 Sweep by the Sea

No. 9 Azusa Pacific defeated Point Loma 4-0 on Saturday to secure the season sweep of the Sea lions.

POINT LOMA, Calif. - The Cougars took the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the Sea Lions of Point Loma, the Cougars were victorious as the match ended 4-0. The Cougars now improve to 10-2 on the season. 

For the third straight match the Cougars secured the doubles point, putting them up 1-0 heading into the singles contests. The first pairing to finish for the Cougars was Madison Kane and Courtney Page at No. 3. They ended their matchup by a score of 6-1. The No. 2 pairing of Carolyn Brooner and Jacky Wagner secured the Cougar's doubles point in which they finished by a score of 6-4. Wrapping up doubles play was No. 1 Petra Ivankovic and Anna Savchenko. The two completed the doubles sweep of the Sea Lions in 6-3 fashion. 

The Cougars used the momentum from doubles as they headed into the singles matchups. Coming off her player of the week honors, Wagner won her matchup at No. 3 in two sets, winning 6-3, 6-1. She won her first set 6-3 and the second set ended by a score of 6-1. Ivankovic put the Cougars up 3-0 at the No. 1 position. She worked quickly by winning 6-0 in the first set and 6-1 in set two. The 4-0 Cougar sweep was clinched by Brooner at No. 4. Brooner had an impressive showing, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The contests at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 went unfinished. 

The Cougars look to take this momentum into their match against San Diego Christian, next Friday, April 10. The Cougars will be at home for the matchup and it is set to begin at 2:30 PM. The match can be followed using live stats here.
