AZUSA, Calif. - No. 9 Azusa Pacific secured an impressive 4-0 sweep victory over No. 23 Concordia in their final meeting of the season. The Cougars finished 2-0 against the Eagles in the 2021 campaign.
The No. 1 pairing of Petra Ivankovic and Anna Savchenko had an impressive showing against the Eagles as they began the match for the Cougars with a 6-1 victory. Jacky Wagner and Carolyn Brooner, in the No. 2 slot, followed right behind with a 6-2 doubles victory. This clinched the doubles point for Azusa Pacific. The No. 3 matchup went unfinished following the Wagner and Brooner victory.
The singles contests began with an impressive victory in the No. 4 slot from Carolyn Brooner. Brooner's victory ended with a score of 6-1, 6-4. True Freshman Madison Kane followed right behind Brooner in the No. 5 slot. Kane was initially down 1-0 in the first set and won six straight games to finish the first set 6-1. She then finished the second set with a 6-0 sweep to secure the victory. The match was clinched by Jacky Wagner's victory in the No. 3 matchup. Wagner battled in the first set in which she won 7-5. Wagner continued to play well as she too finished her second set 6-0. The No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 matchups went unfinished.
Azusa Pacific, now 9-2, will take on Cal Lutheran next Wednesday, April 7. The match start time is scheduled for 2:00 PM and will be an away match for the Cougars.
