AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific added its fourth consecutive win to open the season, defeating Fresno Pacific 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Madison Kane and Courtney Page got the match started off right for the Cougars, making quick work of their Sunbird opponents for a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Azusa Pacific then clinched the point in the No. 2 dual, with Jacky Wagner and Carolyn Brooner earning a 6-3 decision. With the 1-0 lead already secured, Petra Ivankovic and Anna Savchenko finished out the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory at No. 1.
In singles, it was three consecutive Cougar wins that allowed for the match to be secured and extend the undefeated streak. Brooner won first in two sets at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3, followed by Wagner's 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3, and finally, Ivankovic clinched the match at No. 1 with a hard-fought victory. Ivankovic was able to cruise to a 6-1 first set win, but she had to work in the second set, eventually gaining the upper hand and taking it 7-5. Fresno Pacific won the remaining three matchups.
Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Concordia on Friday, with the match to begin at 1:00 pm.
