AZUSA, Calif. -- No. 9 Azusa Pacific defended its home courts against rival Biola on Saturday afternoon, earning a 5-2 victory.

Courtney Page and Madison Kane started things off in the doubles portion of the match at No. 3, as the duo made quick work of Biola's Gaby Carvajal and Amelia Kitts, winning 6-0. The Eagles were able to draw even with a win in the No. 2 spot (6-3, Fager/McNeill def. Carolyn Brooner/Jacky Wagner), which brought all the attention to the No. 1 matchup with the winner clinching the doubles point for their team. It was the tandem of Petra Ivankovic and Anna Savchenko who delivered for the Cougars, emerging with a 6-4 win to deliver the early 1-0 match lead.

With relative ease, Wagner seized the first singles point of the match in the No. 3 dual (6-1, 6-1) and put Azusa Pacific up 2-0. Biola scored its first point of the day at No. 5 singles, where Mary Brascia held off Kane 6-2, 6-4, and the Eagles cut their deficit down to 2-1. The next matchup to finish was No. 6, as Katia Betancourt picked up her fifth two-set win of the year with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, which put Azusa Pacific in a match-clinching position with one more win.

For the second time on the day, it was Savchenko who came through with a clinching performance. Playing at No. 2 against Carvajal, she had to battle in the first set for a 7-5 win, and then took control in the second set and closed it out for the Cougars with a 6-2 win.

Brooner added one more point for the Cougars at No. 5 with a hard-fought three set win (6-3, 4-6, 6-2), and the Eagles added their second point when Ivankovic had to retire in the No. 1 dual during the second set.

Now 8-2, Azusa Pacific awaits a match with Concordia on Thursday, April 1 at 2:30 pm in Azusa. Live scoring will be available here.
