The Cougars opened the match by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matchups first. The No. 3 pairing of Courtney Page and Madison Kane won 6-2, followed by Jacky Wagner and Carolyn Brooner winning in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5), to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead.Â

Wagner went from helping clinch the doubles point to opening singles with a quick two-set win (6-0, 6-2) at No. 3. Metro State was able to pick up a point in the No. 4 dual to bring the overall tally to 2-1, but Ivankovic would take a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1, and then Savchenko clinched the match at No. 2 in a hard-fought three-set win. Savchenko fell 6-4 in the first set, and then bounced back 6-4 in the second, and closed it out with a 6-2 win in the third and deciding set.Â

The Cougars closed out the day with Katia Betancourt's 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6, and then Madison Kane went 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 to add the sixth overall point of the day for the Cougars.

Azusa Pacific will be back in action on Thursday, when the Cougars travel to Division I Cal State Fullerton for a match scheduled for 1:30 pm.
