Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific claimed its first win of the young 2021 season on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Division I UC Riverside by a 6-1 score.

The Cougars opened the match by taking the doubles point, with Sam Sippel and Ryan Nuno winning 6-1 at no. 2, and UC Riverside having to forfeit the no. 3 matchup due to a limited active roster for the day.Â

In singles, Azusa Pacific collected five of the six possible points. Both Schnaitter (no. 1) & Sippel (no. 2) were able to make quick work of their opponents by winning in two sets, with Schnaitter winning 6-4, 6-3, and Sippel claiming a 7-6, 6-2 victory in his matchup. The Cougars also got a pair of three-set wins, highlighted by Ian Lee, who won his first collegiate singles match of his career at 6-3, 1-6, 6-5 in the no. 5 matchup. The other three-set victory came from Nuno (no. 3), who bounced back from a first set defeat to earn the win (4-6, 6-4, 7-5). The sixth point of the day for the Cougars came by way of forfeit in the no. 6 match.

"We played much better today than we did for the season opening matches on Saturday," said head coach Mark Bohren, "It was really nice to get this win against a Division I opponent, and I believe we can build off of this performance."
