Cougars Cut Down by Concordia

Azusa Pacific women’s soccer fell to Concordia 3-1 in a road conference game on Saturday.

IRVINE, Calif. — Azusa Pacific women's soccer suffered its second conference loss of the season after falling to the Eagles by a score of 3-1. Although both teams posted 16 shots, Concordia was able to find the back of the net on two separate occasions in the last 45 minutes of the match.

"I'm disappointed with how we came out in the 2nd half. We moved away from the things that worked for us in the first half. They finished their chances and we didn't." said head coach Brooke Lincoln

How it Happened: The Cougars found themselves trailing after the 6th minute, when Concordia delivered on an opportunity to go up 1-0. Azusa Pacific delivered the equalizer in the 28th minute, when Amy Bishop set up Mackenzie Coleman to record her first goal of the season and second of her career.

Despite the Cougars leading in shots taken and corner kicks going into the second half, the Eagles found the back of the net in the 58th minute to go up 2-1. Although Azusa Pacific kept pace and delivered eight shots on goal, Concordia outshot the Cougars by two in the second half. In the 78th minute, the Eagles posted their third goal of the day to eventually go up 3-1.

The lead was too much for the Cougars to overcome despite a shot by Maddy Morrison in the 84th minute that missed wide left.

20 different Cougars saw action in the match tonight, and despite the score, Azusa Pacific's front line pressed Concordia's defense by forcing eight saves from the Eagle's goalkeeper. Kylie Carwitz and Coleman were the lone Cougar's that played the full 90 minutes of the match.

"To win conference you have to overcome. We have to overcome starting the first four games on the road. We are excited to be home for the next five matches!" said Lincoln.

Up Next: The Cougar's will begin a five game home stand on Thursday evening as they face Holy Names at the Cougar Soccer Complex at 5:00PM.
