Cougars Fall in Hawai'i Finale

Azusa Pacific women' soccer lost to Chaminade 1-0 in its final game of the team's Hawai'i road trip.

HONOLULU, Hawai'i —Azusa Pacific suffered its third loss of the season, and first in PacWest play Monday after losing to Chaminade by a score of 1-0. The Cougars allowed the goal on a set piece in the first half and were unable to cash in on any of their offensive opportunities.

"Today is one of those really disappointing games," coach Brooke Lincoln said, "After giving up a really early goal we had every opportunity to send it to overtime at the very least and we didn't do that."

How it Happened: The Cougars conceded the first goal of the game in just the second minute when Chaminade's Caili Cain scored on a free kick that beat goalkeeper Bella Hara from 25 yards out. "Credit to Chaminade as the free kick was well played," Lincoln said of the goal.

Azusa Pacific responded for the remainder of the half, dominating most of the possession and acquiring nine shots and forcing Chaminade's goalkeeper to make six saves. The Cougars were unable to tie it up though despite a 9-2 advantage in shots and 6-0 advantage in corner kicks in just the first half.

In the second half, the Cougars continued to press on the attack creating four more shots in the final 45 minutes with two of them on target. It was to no avail however for Azusa Pacific as they were shut out for just the third time this season.

"Our decision making overall but particularly in the final third wasn't nearly good enough today," Lincoln said.

Chaminade was only able to muster two shots in the entire game and zero in the final 45 minutes as center backs Mackenzie Coleman and Gianna Ocello continued to stymie opponents offenses. Midfielder Katie Prado recorded five shots in the game with four of them on goal while Maddy Morrison was the only other Cougar with multiple shots as she had three.

Up Next: The Cougars will travel to Concordia on Saturday, October 9th to continue their conference schedule. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. between the Eagles and Cougars, follow along with live stats here, or watch online here.
