AZUSA, Calif. --Â The Cougars improved to 10-4 on the season with a dominant 6-0 win on Monday night over Academy of Art. This is the largest margin of victory for the Cougars since 2013, when they defeated Holy Names 7-0. Head Coach Brooke Lincoln has led this squad to their first 10 win season in five years.Â
How it Happened - Azusa Pacific attacked early in the match, compiling 13 shots on goal in the first half. In the 10th minute, Ella Romero put away the first goal of the night with the help of Bethany Tee. The Cougars continued the action packed first half with another goal, this one posted by Tee in the 16th minute. With the Cougars compiling four more shots on goal, Maddy Morrison found the back of the net with an assist by Amy Bishop to put Azusa Pacific up 3-nil. The Cougars held possession and continued to press the Urban Knight defense and posted their fourth goal of the half when Kayla Grisham placed a ball over the leaping Knights goalie.
The Cougars were in a good position heading into the second half collecting 13 shots on a goal in the last 45 minutes. Randi Macadangdang found the back of the net quickly, allowing the Cougars to take a 5-0 lead in the 47th minute. Azusa Pacific continued to press, having the ball on the Knights half for a majority of the last 45 minutes, forcing Academy of Art to make four saves. The Cougars defense contributed to another clean sheet, preventing Bella Hara and Maddie Williams from posting any saves in the match. In the 62nd minute, Maddy Morrison placed her second ball of the night in the back of the net, the Cougars sixth and final goal.Â
By the Numbers - Azusa Pacific held the Urban Knights to just one corner kick and one shot the whole match, completing the Cougars seventh shutout win of the season. 28 Cougars saw action in the match tonight, with five different players collecting goals. Morrison posted her third game of the season where she scored two or more goals. Macadangdang recorded her sixth goal of the year and Tee with her fourth.Â
Over the course of 14 games this season, the Cougars have scored 28 goals, which is the highest amount of goals scored over the course of 14 matches since the 2013 season.Â
