AZUSA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific senior
Selom Mawugbe has added All-American distinction to the long list of honors and awards he has collected this season, as the National Association of Basketball Coaches named Mawugbe a first-team All-American, while the D2CCA announced him as a third-team All-American selection. He becomes the first All-American for the Cougars since Troy Leaf ('15), who was named an All-American by both the NABC and D2CCA as well.
In his final collegiate season, Mawugbe averaged a double-double with 16.9 points per game and 10.4 rebounds. He set himself apart nationally by leading all of Division II in field goal percentage (71.80%), and he was second in total blocks (91) and blocks per game (3.14). Mawugbe recorded four or more blocks in 12 games, including a season-high eight blocks against Cal State Los Angeles. Offensively, he scored in double-figures in all but one of Azusa Pacific's games, including six games which he poured in 20 or more points.
Mawugbe finishes his Cougar career as the all-time shot blocker in Azusa Pacific history, as he amassed 327 blocks over his four seasons, and is eighth all-time in school history with 847 rebounds. He also left his mark on the entire PacWest conference, as he is the all-time leader in blocks and blocks per game, as well as top-10 in field goal percentage.

In addition to the recognition he has garnered from the conference and other associations within intercollegiate athletics, Mawugbe has drawn attention from renowned media outlets in the Los Angeles area. One of the nation's most respected sports anchors, Jim Hill, made his way to Azusa Pacific's campus to have a one-on-one interview with Mawugbe. Hill, who has interviewed some of the world's most popular and successful athletes, talked to Mawugbe about faith, family, academics, and athletics. Hill returned to campus a few weeks later, as he and fellow sports anchor Jamie Maggio broadcasted live from the Felix Event Center during the evening and nighttime sports segments of CBS2/KCAL9 nightly news.
