AZUSA, Calif.-- The No.7 APU men's tennis team defended its home court Friday afternoon with a 4-1 win over the visiting San Diego Christian Hawks today at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. The Cougars displayed dominance against the Hawks, grabbing a decisive doubles point and then pinning up singles wins from
Jakob Schnaitter and
Caden Samkutty to secure the nonconference win. Azusa Pacific is now 5-1 on the year.
In doubles APU got up a break on courts two and three to capture the first point of the day. On court three,
Ethan Smith and
Dillon Barnard dominated with a 6-1 win. The tandem of
Jakob Schnaitter and
Sam Sippel finished with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot to send the Cougars on to singles with a 1-0 lead.Â
In singles, the Cougars sprinted out with victories on courts one and five to advance the score 3-0 before the Hawks received its only point at the No. 3 position.
Jakob Schnaitter finished first at the top spot just before
Caden Samkutty completed the Cougar's second singles victory of the day on court No. 5.
Sam Sippel wrapped up the match with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win to clinch the match.
What's Next:
Azusa Pacific stays on its home courts tomorrow with a Saturday match against College of the Desert starting at 12:00 p.m.
