LA MIRADA, Calif. – Azusa Pacific turned in a dominant showing at rival Biola on Monday evening, as the Cougars won the contest 7-0.
The Cougars got things rolling doubles, with
April Wong and
Katia Betancourt claiming a 6-0 victory in #3 doubles, followed by a 6-1 win in #2 doubles from
Audrey Stewart and
Jacky Wagner. In #1 doubles,
Petra Ivankovic and
Anna Savchenko were up 3-2 when Stewart and Wagner secured the doubles point.
Azusa Pacific was just as dominant in singles, with all six Cougars claiming two-set victories. Wong picked up the first singles point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the #4 spot. Wagner gave the Cougars a 3-0 match lead by way of a 6-2, 6-2 win in the #3 matchup. The final three points were won by Stewart in the #6 spot (6-3, 6-2), Betancourt at #5 (6-0, 6-4), and Savchenko at #2 (6-4, 6-3).
"It was a straight forward win against a much improve Biola team," said head coach
Mark Bohren.
The Cougars are now 2-1 to start the season, with the lone loss coming at Division I Cal State Fullerton. Azusa Pacific will be back in action on Wednesday, February 12 at Cal State Los Angeles. The match will begin at 1:30 pm.
