SURPRISE, Calif.-- The No.18 Cougars came out victorious clinching the third place title in the PacWest Tournament after topping Concordia in a 4-0 sweep Saturday morning. With the win, the Azusa Pacific men's tennis team improves 23-3 on the season.
Azusa Pacific took hold of an early lead winning on court two and three in both sets 6-2. Finishing first at the No. 3 position was the tandem of
Ethan Smith and
Ronald Kang notching a 6-2 win. Shortly after
Jakob Schnaitter and
Marnix Pluim claimed the doubles point on court two with another 6-2 victory.
Sophomore
Jakob Schnaitter continues his perfect singles season, winning 6-2, 6-4 at the top spot. Senior
Marnix Pluim continued to hold that same momentum for the Cougars at court 5 with a 7-5, 6-4 win to extend APU's lead 3-0. Looking to clinch the match,
Ryan Nuno finished out strong with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot to seal the deal and sweep the Golden Eagles for the third time this season in a 4-0 sweep.
