Azusa, Calif.-- Azusa Pacific only allowed one to get away, beating Colorado Mesa 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Courts. With the win, the No.12 Cougars improve their overall record 8-4 on the season.
The Cougars came out of the gate hot as
Anna Savchenko and
April Wong upset their opponents 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. The tandem of
Courtney Page and
Katia Betancourt powered through and notched a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position, while teammates
Kara Hinton and
Jacky Wagner finished shortly after with a 6-4 win at the top spot to send the Cougars into singles 1-0.
When singles began,
Anna Savchenko pushed the Cougars ahead and dominated both sets 6-0 with ease at the No. 2 position. At the top spot, the Cougars dropped its only point of the day due to a with drawl, but
Mikayla Rinker retaliated at the No. 4 spot to win 6-0, 6-3. Teammate
Jacky Wagner came out victorious at the No. 3 slot with a 6-4, 6-2 win to clinch the match. Although the Cougars had already won the match, the remaining courts were played out.
Audrey Stewart won in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 at the No. 5 position, while
Katia Betancourt finished the day with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 6 spot.
