Azusa, Calif.-- The No.11 APU men's tennis team defended its home court Tuesday afternoon with a 6-1 win over the visiting Western New Mexico Mustangs today at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. The Cougars displayed dominance against the Mustangs, grabbing a decisive doubles point and then pinning up singles wins from
Ryan Nuno and
Leyton Bohren to secure the nonconference win. Azusa Pacific is now 10-1 on the year.
In doubles APU got up a break on all courts to capture the first point of the day. On court three,
Ronald Kang and
Ethan Smith dominated with a 6-1 win. The tandem of
Ryan Nuno and
Leyton Bohren finished with a 6-3 victory at the No.2 spot while teammates
Jakob Schnaitter and
Jesse Haas whipped up another 6-3 win at the top spot to send the Cougars on to singles with a 1-0 lead on the board.
In singles, the Mustangs received its only point from a with drawl at the No. 3 position. The Cougars the sprinted out with victories on all courts the remainder of the day.
Ryan Nuno finished at the No. 2 spot with a 6-0, 6-2 victory while
Leyton Bohren followed behind with a 6-0, 6-4 win at the No. 4 slot.
Jakob Schnaitter won at the top spot 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, and teammate
Jesse Haas finished strong with a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
Dillon Barnard wrapped up the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win to clinch the match.
APU's next action takes the Cougars to UC Riverside Friday, March 15 for a 4:30 p.m. match.
