Azusa Pacific and Biola wrapped up a two-day dual meet on Saturday morning, as the Cougars fell 194.5-176.5 to the Eagles.
Â
On Friday, the two teams met at Biola's campus in La Mirada. Of the nine events on day one, Biola took first place in all but one event, as
Hannah Frey's first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle was the lone victory for the Cougars. With the strong performance on day one, Biola took a commanding 114.5-89.5 lead into Saturday.
Â
While Biola still won the meet, day two in Azusa proved to be far more competitive. Of the seven individual events on Saturday, the Cougars took first in five races, and the teams split the two relays. Frey followed up her Friday victory with a pair of first place finishes on day two, as she won the 1650 yard freestyle and the 200 yard backstroke.
Tessie Scavone,
Riley Smith and
Sydney Benveniste also turned in first place finishes. Scavone won the 500 yard freestyle, Smith took first in the 100 yard freestyle, and Benveniste was first to the wall in the 100 yard butterfly.
Â
"Our races were progressively better throughout the weekend," said head coach
Tim Kyle, "but we came up short of a victory… We will continue to prepare to swim and dive well every weekend, with our focus being on our conference championship meet."
Â
While Biola took the overall meet, the Cougars dominated in diving.
Amy Crayne took first place and nine points in each the one-meter dive and the three-meter dive. Briana Medvecki finished right behind Crayne in both events to take second place and add a total of eight points to the team score. Azusa Pacific won the diving portion of the weekend by a 27-10 score.
Â
The Cougars will be back in action this upcoming weekend, as the dive team heads to the USC-hosted Trojan Diving Invitational on Nov. 8 & 9, while the swim team heads to the Orange County Invitational in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
